National Geography Awareness Week
Established in 1987 by a joint resolution of Congress and sponsored by National Geographic Society, National Geography Awareness Week is celebrated annually during the third week of November throughout the United States. Each year boasts a new theme; this year’s “Geography: The Adventure in Your Community” promotes the idea that the geographic perspective is an important way to understand every community -- no matter the size or how long one has been a part of it.
