Escape with us to the South Pacific, where natural beauty dazzles the senses and romance and adventure await just over the horizon. For seven nights aboard the mega-yacht Star Flyer, we encounter the fabled Society Islands: Huahine, Raiatea, Tahaa, Bora Bora (mythical Bali Hai), Moorea … surrounded by crystalline waters of emerald and turquoise. It’s the perfect South Seas escape, with time in Papeete, Tahiti, before and after the cruise.

Itinerary

Day-By-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Depart U.S. for Papeete, Tahiti We arrive in the Tahitian capital and transfer directly to our hotel.

Day 2: Papeete Spread over some two million square miles of the South Pacific Ocean, the Society Islands comprise 118 islands on five great archipelagos. At the center of it all is Tahiti, the largest island and capital of French Polynesia. We get our first taste of this storied tropical paradise on our half-day tour that circles the entire island, including 71 miles of dramatic coastline. Sights include the James Norman Hall Museum; Tahara’s viewpoint; Maraa Fern Grotto; and the Arahurhu marae, the only restored ancient temple in all of Polynesia. We also visit the acclaimed Museum of Tahiti and Her Islands, whose historic displays command a beautiful lagoon setting; and Point Venus, with its 110-foot tall lighthouse and where both Captain Cook and later Captain Bligh landed on the black-sand beach. After returning to our hotel, the remainder of the day is at leisure. B,D

Day 3: Papeete/Embark Star Flyer Most of today is free to enjoy the private beach and other facilities of our resort hotel; perhaps to visit the Gauguin Museum documenting the life and work of French artist Paul Gauguin who once called the island home; or to discover the heart of Papeete at Le Marché, the colorful 153-year-old public market brimming with locally made crafts, colorful fruits, and aromatic flowers. Late this afternoon we board Star Flyer, the only modern-day tall ship plying these waters year-round. We enjoy our first dinner on board then set sail tonight for Huahine. B,D

Day 4: Society Islands Cruising – Huahine After a blissful morning at sea, we reach Huahine around lunchtime. The Society Island that perhaps best embodies the phrase, “escape to a tropical island,” Huahine boasts steep mountains plunging into protected bays of turquoise and emerald, an abundance of lush tropical foliage, and a treasured air of solitude and tranquility. We spend the afternoon here, relaxing on long stretches of white-sand beaches and using (if we wish) Star Flyer’s sports equipment, including windsurfers, Sunfish, water-skis, and inflatable zodiacs for exploring. B,L,D

Day 5: Society Islands Cruising – Raiatea/Tahaa Early this morning we set sail for Raiatea, the second largest of the Society Islands (after Papeete), known as the “sacred island” for its role as a cultural and religious center more than a thousand years ago. Birthplace of Polynesian legends and lore, Raiatea boasts pearl farms, vanilla plantations, archaeological sites, shops filled with local crafts, and a stunning tropical setting of gentle mountains, pristine waterfalls, and white-sand beaches. We arrive this morning and have all day to explore this cultural heart of Polynesia. Late this afternoon we sail to nearby Tahaa, which shares its lagoon with Raiatea and where we anchor for the night. B,L,D

Day 6: Society Islands Cruising – Tahaa/Bora Bora We spend the morning on this idyllic island, perhaps relaxing on a palm-fringed beach or using Star Flyer’s water sports equipment. Early this afternoon we set sail for legendary Bora Bora, arriving this evening in the most celebrated tropical paradise of them all, and where we anchor for the night. B,L,D

Day 7: Society Islands Cruising – Bora Bora/Cook’s Bay Almost mind-bending beauty defines this island dominated by two distinctive peaks of sheer black rock towering over waters in dazzling shades of blue. A crystalline lagoon and coral reefs surround Bora Bora like a protective ring; lush tropical slopes and valleys bloom with hibiscus; and emerald waters lap against unspoiled white-sand beaches. We have all day to spend here, enjoying lagoon and land activities or taking optional island tours and glass-bottomed boat excursions. Then departing by sail as the sun sets, we bid farewell to the place that was the inspiration for James Michener’s mythical, magical Bali Hai. B,L,D

Day 8: Society Islands Cruising – Cook’s Bay/Opunohu Bay, Moorea Having sailed through the night, we reach Cook’s Bay off Moorea late this morning. Jagged black volcanic peaks, dense green rain forests and pineapple plantations, and white-sand beaches bordering lagoons of aqua and emerald color this tranquil triangle-shaped island that often stars as a “South Pacific paradise” in Hollywood films. The day is our own to do as we wish, perhaps to explore the island on an optional tour, see stupendous views from Belvedere lookout, or relish the tranquility of an endless ribbon of white-sand beach. Late this afternoon we sail to Opunohu Bay on the far side of Moorea, and where we spend the night in port. B,L,D

Day 9: Society Islands Cruising – At Sea/Papeete We spend our last day aboard Star Flyer at sea, as we sail back to Papeete. Arriving late this afternoon, we overnight in the port of Papeete. B,L,D

Day 10: Papeete Mid-morning we disembark our mega-yacht and transfer to our hotel. The remainder of the day and evening are at leisure to enjoy our French Polynesian idyll as we choose. Tonight we gather for a farewell dinner. B,D

Day 11: Depart for U.S. We have a few more hours to spend in this tropical paradise before our early evening transfer to the airport where we board our connecting flights for the U.S. B

Day 12: Arrive U.S. We arrive in the U.S this morning and connect with our flights home.
