Preparing – and sampling – a region’s cuisine is a great way to gain valuable insight into their culture. On our Insider’s Japan small group tour, we’ve arranged for guests to participate in an intimate, hands-on cooking class, an exclusive event only available to Odysseys guests.
Created by Shingo – a professional English teacher with a passion for cooking – and hosted by his longtime friend Yoko, Hida Cooking Class begins with a walking tour of Takayama and a stop at the city’s centuries-old Miyagawa Morning Market, where we shop for fresh, seasonal, local produce to prepare for lunch.
After our group finishes shopping, we head to one of Takayama’s temples to start cooking. Shingo and Yoko expertly lead us through every step of the process as we prepare delicious, authentic Japanese dishes from scratch. And once the work is done, we get to enjoy the fruits of our labor!
