The much-anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) finally opened many of its galleries to visitors on a trial basis in fall 2024 after years of setbacks and delays. From the massive statue of Ramses II standing guard over the entrance hall to the statue-lined grand staircase leading to the main galleries, the museum – now widely regarded as the largest architectural museum on earth – houses a collection of over 100,000 artifacts spanning some 7,000 years of Egyptian history. And on clear days, guests visiting the GEM can see the nearby Giza pyramid complex, thanks to the museum’s prime location on the Giza Plateau.
Odysseys guests were among the first to explore the GEM when they opened their doors late last year. What’s more, guests on our Egypt & the Eternal Nile and Treasures of Egypt tours continue to visit the GEM on every departure, and we’re thrilled to report that their reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Scroll down to see what some Odysseys guests have been saying.
